When I first became a parent, I struggled to retain my identity. Who I had been before felt like a distant memory. When I first found out I was pregnant, I did a dramatic purge of all of my vintage clothing. In my mind, my beautiful fifties dresses and skirts were no longer practical and instead I should become more 'mumsy'. It's a decision I still rather bitterly regret today.
After almost 14 years as a mother, I have come to the conclusion that whilst parenthood does of course change us, it doesn't have to mean a complete removal of everything that came before.
